"When I heard I was accepted for the 'Stepping Home Program',
I was very excited and nervous - many emotions at the same
time. I cannot put into words the feeling I had when I got
the news that my loan had been approved. I had hoped and
prayed for many years to own a home of my very own. When it
happened, I could not believe it. I still find it hard to
believe. As I walk through my home sometimes, I stop and say,
'This is really my house! I own it.' Homeownership means that
I will have something of value to pass on to my children. It
is an investment in our futures. It also means that my
children will see their mother as a homeowner and not as a
lifelong public housing resident. Hopefully they will grow up
and do the same because they now know that it is not
impossible for all of them to become homeowners! We are all
very proud of our new home." |

"And we are
grateful for programs that help people who, under
conventional mortgage guidelines, would not qualify for
homeownership. These special homeownership programs are
important."
"The Greenwood Housing Authority is doing a lot of good
things to help families up and out of poverty and assisted
housing. Their staff - and the supporters behind the program
- have truly been a blessing for my family and me."
