"Cultural Center Study"

The Arts Council of Greenwood County recently completed a needs assessment involving all local cultural organizations, with an emphasis on the requirement for a major Arts Center to be located in downtown Greenwood. The four areas studied were architectural drawings, funding, sustainability planning and programming. Phase I of the final report proposes renovations to the Federal Building to make it an attractive and functional building for the arts community and for all residents of the community. Additionally, the plan calls for a visitors’ reception center. This vital addition to our community will welcome visitors to the region and connect them to our many cultural, natural and historical points of interest.

"There are exciting possibilities for Greenwood as a result of this initiative: our most visible, beautiful and historic building in the downtown landscape will once again be a vibrant center of activity. It will serve as a first point of contact with visitors to the area, it will house exhibits and be a place for all cultural organizations to meet, work and plan. Community events and conferences will be held there. Classes for children and adults will be offered. The museum and theatre will have additional work and storage space. In short, our most attractive building will be a focal point for all."
